Cute DIYs That You Can Do at Home #2
Hey guys! So today I will be explaining about yet another cute DIY that you can do at home right now!
OOBLECK STRESS BALLS
So lately this has gone viral, but I swear, I had no idea what these were as I was thinking of the idea. After I had thought it all out, I went online to see if any other people had, and sure enough, there were tons of websites and videos! So much for originality!
Anyways, I still wanted to do it. Christmas was coming up and it would make a perfect gift! So I watched a bunch of videos, and bought lots of supplies! Hope you guys enjoy!
PS Sorry, no pictures. As I was making it, I forgot to take pictures of the finished project, so sorry!!
PPS This will be in a different format than my first DIY on iRandom.
Materials:
*Cornstarch (Most of you already have that in your home)
*Water (YOU ALL SHOULD HAVE WATER) - Try not to use bottled water, as that is a waste. Just use tap water.
*Balloons (Really easy to find)
*Food Coloring (Optional)
*Bowls (Super easy)
*Plastic Water Bottle (optional)
*Spoon (EASY)
Directions:
1. Take your bowl and pour in a ton of cornstarch. Since I had to make a lot of balloons, I actually made several batches to avoid mess, but if you aren't making too many, just pour in enough. BTW there are no measurements to making oobleck. It will just be enough when you get there.
2. Add some water little by little and start stirring with a spoon. Keep doing this until the mixture is hardened.
3. Dip your finger into the bowl and take it out. If it comes out looking milky, you need more cornstarch, and if it comes out looking powdery, you need more water.
4. Keep going until you have a mixture that comes mostly off of your hands if you dipped your hands into it. If you pick up the oobleck, you will see that it runs through your fingers like a liquid, but also hardens if you try to roll it into a ball like a solid.
* PLAY
5. Pour your mixture into a plastic water bottle. I actually had to pick it up and push it in the spout the first time because my oobleck was still a little solid.
6. Once it is about halfway full, place a balloon's tail over the spout of the water bottle.
7. Turn the water bottle upside down and wait for the balloon to fill up. This might take a little while, so you can squeeze the bottom of the bottle for more of it to come out at once. (TRY NOT TO POP YOUR BALLOON)
8. Wait for it to become completely full. Then take off the balloon and tie the end like you would any balloon. Try to remove any extra oobleck that's stuck inside of the tail.
9. If your balloons are not the strongest, cut off about half of the tail of another balloon and push the stress ball into your other balloon.
10. You now have a oobleck stress ball!
11. Complete as many times as you need to!
12. Don't forget to clean up! Wash off all of your balloons if there is oobleck on the outside, and dry them with a soft towel (or leave it out overnight). Then do whatever you want with them! Got oobleck all over the floor? Don't worry about it! Oobleck is a solid so you can just scoop it up with your hands. Piece. Of. Cake.
Oobleck is a non-Newtonian fluid that seems to be both liquid and solid at different times under different conditions.
Thanks for reading and please comment below on how your stress balls turned out!
Thanks, MIC ;)
